BUKTI HUBUNGAN BRUNEI-SAMBAS

Haji Jaludin Bin Haji Chuchu

Abstract: Brunei-Sambas relations have been researched from different perspectives such as history and archeology and have resulted in convincing findings. Local historians have acknowledged that the relation begun during the era of Sultan Tengah (Raden Hamzah, 2007, Haji Abd. Karim, 2007) in Sambas with the marriage to Princess Sukadana in the 16-th century. This is a valid historical fact. However, this paper does not discuss this relation but it is a discusiion on the relation between Sambas and Brunei which grew long before the time mentioned above. Linguistic evidence fom data collected from informal interviews and from the compilation of Swadesh vocabulary have indicated the relation between Brunei and Sambas. This evidence also reveals the origins of the Malay language which will not be discussed in this paper. Data from the Sambas dialect of the Malay language are analyzed to disclose the Brunei-Sambas relations. The lengthening of consonants and lexical innovative relations will be discussed as the focus of the paper.

Key words: consonants, lexical innovation, Brunei-Sambas
